Vintage Gold Plated Women's Quartz Watch // Genuine Leather Yellow Strap // Unique Red Hats Design Dial.
This is a unique vintage women's faded gold plated quartz watch. This watch is in good working order, with a new battery installed. The gold plating on the watch case has next to no fading. What makes this watch so unique, is the fantastic dial depicting the 6513th "Red Hats" Test Squadron. We have also given this timepiece a bright yellow genuine leather strap with a gold buckle and navy strap retainer loops. Great to be dressed up for a fancy dinner party or dialled down for jeans and t-shirt at the beach.
Red Hats:
Red Hats was the nickname of the 6513th Test Squadron, whose mission was to test fly a collection of Soviet military aircraft surreptitiously acquired from foreign sources. The 6513th was based at Groom Lake, Nevada in a collection of hangars on the northern end of the base that became known as "Red Square." The program to test Soviet MiGs at Groom Lake began in the late 1960s as a joint CIA/USAF effort under the code names HAVE DRILL and HAVE DOUGHNUT. Again, note the collection of six stars on the patch, which may refer to Groom Lake's nickname.
